Mexico Travel Journal: Riviera Nayarit Episode 5: San Blas y Mexcaltitan

I learned about the surfing in San Blas years ago and took a roadtrip from the sun and fun of Mazatlan in the state of Sinaloa to the explore this Rivera Nayarit destination. This beach town nearly equidistant from Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta, was one of the destinations I most excited to return to see in the Mexico Travel Journal series. This trip, we spent time on the beach but also head out on the river to experience some of the Mexico travel destination’s world famous birding. Normally, I might just head to the beach, near perfection at times, especially during a San Blas sunset , but this trip I learned more about things to do in Riviera Nayarit.

La Tovara in San Blas, Riviera Nayarit, Mexico

explore La Tovara and doing some birding

Also, as part of the episode, you will also discover Mexcaltitan, the once Pueblo Magico and relaxed river town also claim origin to the legend of the birth of Mexico itself. Here, you’ll discover the fishing vibe with the opportunity to eat the famous (and delicious) Zarendeado, a local wood grilled fish dish popular up the entire pacific coast. Many persist, the dish is best made here as I pointed out when documenting all the states of Mexico and specifically the state of Nayarit. No argument from me.

For 2017, the Mexican March Madness will showcase the Bitacora, my Mexico travel journal, chronicling my time through the Riviera Nayarit and then Puerto Vallarta across 12 episodes. All the videos have been uploaded to YouTube and will be showcased this March. All videos are property of Visit Mexico and I was compensated for my work.
