Lunch at Cafe Le Jardin in San Pedro, Lake Atitlan

Usually in lake towns I search for restaurants with a view of the lake, but sometime a quiet comfortable setting offers the view you need. In the town of San Pedro on Lake Atitlan, Cafe Le Jardin offered such a setting.

open the gate and enter...

I selected the cafe for the garden (jardin). Inside the gate, the decor and design integrated tables into the garden itself. No two tables were the same and each held a different view of the garden. It added to the charm of the place as did the waitress.

the garden view...

She was Dutch via Honduras and claimed to be “lost” in Guatemala for months. She shared her dreams before taking my lunch order and I listened. Her story alone made my time in the garden a worthy adventure.

Then the sandwich and cerveza arrived. Lunch time. The town of San Pedro on Lake Atitlan continued to be an interesting place.

Tip: At all places around Lake Atitlan talk to the cafe owners and workers; you’ll find some amazing stories. I found many. Plus, many times it’s better than the food.

Maryann, Guatemala still offers a rawness, a chance to travel a less traveled path… if that’s your type of vacation or holiday, definitely consider it.
