On the remote Osa Peninsula, a place National Geographic labeled, “the most biologically intense place on earth” travelers find Costa Rica’s real riches – its wildlife. As the last place settled in the country, it can be argued it is the ‘pure” in the country’s mantra and way of life, “Pura Vida.”

When I arrived at the El Remanso Lodge after a 45 minuted off-road adventure in a Land Rover, I was immediately ushered to see one of the true birding prizes of the region, the Scarlet Macaw. Two days later four Scarlet Macaws returned, along with two Toucans, to create a frenzy of excitement among the few guests. I stepped away from my lunch to snap this image of one just outside the pavilion in the wild of Costa Rica’s, Osa Peninsula. Enjoy.
